My 'Marvellous Online Book Emporium' will be here and live by 1st December 2008 - this is a brief introduction to what's coming.
This whole web site is a labour of love but no more so than this Bookstore. Since I was around 8 years old my father used to take me along to the local library at least once a week. I think it was just to get me out of the house in the evening. But once I was in there he could hardly get me out! I had a child like fascination with books and I still have. For a modest sum of money or a library ticket, you get perhaps a lifetime of wisdom and experience or maybe the chance to become totally immersed in a fascinating story.
My father left me when I was 16 but the books never did. Around the year 1999, one day I decided to count them. It took quite some time. It turned out I had 4267 books! Yes that's not a typo, four thousand two hundred and sixty seven books, and yes I did have a big house at the time.
Even for me this was too much. Since then I've managed to steadily reduce the number to around a third of that by giving them to friends, donations and occasionally selling some. I live in a much more modest house now, but books will always be an important part of my life and I still buy them.
So here in my Marvellous Book Emporium I'll make sure you can browse only the very best within each category. If I haven't read them myself, (and a lot I have), I'll only display what I know have been recommended by friends and reputable readers to be the real gems.
All the modest profit goes 100% to the Yarina Village Project
So soon I'll be able to welcome you to my online Bookstore put together in conjunction with the well known Amazon online Bookstore and remember the modest mark-up I make from Amazon, will go 100% to the Yarina Village Project in the Amazonian Rainforest Peru, a fitting combination don't you think?
