Things you need know about before travelling in Peru

Although we offer special travel packages which take care of most things for you, such as travel accommodation and most food, I think the information in this section is well worth studying. After all you might decide to tag an extra week or two onto the beginning or end of one of our ecoTrails. I'd certainly recommend it as Peru is fascinating to say the least.

'Active Travel' in the Amazon and Andes

Most of the information and suggestions here apply to a lot of the countries in South American but of course some of it depends on the terrain. I've focused here on the two regions we cover in our ecoTrails, the Amazon and the Andes. As none of our ecoTrails are what I'd call extreme, I focus on what could be called 'active travel'. Active in that you get out and about into the terrain on walks and hikes, boats, buses, taxis and trains or whatever. In other words fully engaged with the experience of travelling in the region.

So if you like to climb mountains in the 'ropes and ice axe' mode, this is not for you. Similarly if you think it's fun to go alligator hunting whilst snorkelling, I'm sure someone somewhere has the information just for you, but here - nada.

Footnotes

1. If there is anything you want to know not covered here please use my CONTACT form to ask. This could not only be helpful to you but will help others also, as I will constantly add to this information. I consider this a public resource and am open to suggestions on how to make it even better. My focus is on making sure your journey is one of the most incredible experiences of travel you have ever had!

2. This information is based on my own experiences and that of a number of close friends who have travelled extensively for long periods of time in the regions and terrain of Peru I cover here. But it is ultimately my opinion and is put here purely as that. Think of it as a condensed form of travelogue. So I have to put the disclaimer that I cannot be held responsible for other peoples experiences or circumstances or in how they use or choose to ignore this information. Fair enough!
